Do you have a medical summary with you showing the diagnosis and prior treatment regimens? As this will be very important, making it easier to get treatment and also to avoid the cost of repeat assessments.

You should be aware that many of the ADHD drugs used in the West are completely banned in Thailand and those which are not, are very strictly controlled substances. They can only be gotten from a hospital and only the larger hospitals carry them, and thai physicians are reluctant to prescribe controlled drugs unless they are really certain of a justifying diagnosis. Again, a letter from your physician(s) at home would helpful.

in terms of where to go, since location seems to be a priority you could first try Vewjthani hospital http://www.vejthani.com/and Ramkamheng Hospital http://www.ramhospital.com/About%20Us.htm.

The Vejthani website gives too little detail on doctor expereince/qualifiactions for me to determine who might be the best choice there, and the Ramkahmheng website does not show doctor qualifications at all. So in both cases I suggest contacting the hospital and asking which of their pyschiatrists would be best to consult for this disorder.

If you are unsuccessful at either of thesep laces, the next closest place to try is Bangkok Hospital on Petchaburi, I suggest this doctor there:

Asst. Prof. Dr. Prakob Pooviboonsuk http://www.bangkokhospital.com/index.php?p=doctor_profile&DrID=559

If that also does not work out you will have to travel further afield. This is not an area where there are many qualified people in Thailand.

I can bring my medical history with me but im curious as to what they would be able to prescribe me as I have been taking provigil the past 2 years and I noticed not much is know about it in thailand.

Also would it be kosher to email or call one of the hospitals to inquire about my situation? Mabey I could even just have my medical records sent there to kill all birds with one stone for any possible future health visits.

Provigil is not licensed for sale in Thailand, nor are any generic equivalents, but the drug as a generic is approved for use. Sometimes i nthat situation the larger private hospitals have a supply, if so it's going to cost a lot.

ADHD drugs for which a manufacturer has a license in Thailand are Strattera (atomoxetine), Somazina (citicoline; in the west known as Cognizin), and -- used less often and under tight restrictions -- methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta and also locally made brands).

Of these, the citicoline would be closest in mode of action top provigil and thus probably the most likely to be effective in someone who responded well to it.

The staff who receive emails at Thai hospitals are not medical people and it is usually a waste of time to try to get into any sort of medical discussion via email. They are basically oriented towards just making appointments. You can try a simple email asking which of their doctors is experienced in treatment of ADHD (spell it out completely). Even this may not work but is worth a try. Do not bother sending your medical records ahead, just bring them with you when you go to see the doctor. You can at that point hand them to the nurse at the desk to show the doctor and he/she will usually then have read them quickly before you are shown into the consultation room.

At Vijthani we are using Dr.Chanin Sakulisariyaporn for treatment of upcountry adult retarded family member who was near death (unable to eat or speak) a year ago and he recovered (but his specialty is eating disorders - but listed as Clinical Observation Fellow at Royal Free Hospital, London, UK. so likely aware of western treatments). He also works at Piyavate Neuroscience Center and suspect they may have larger facility/staff than Vejthani.

I hadn't thought of Piyavate, but it is indeed another option in that part of the city. Unfortunately it's website is even worse than Vejthani's in terms of making it possible to assess specialist qualifications so I have no idea if they have anyone on staff with experience in ADHD. I don't find Dr. Chanin in the list of staff of their neuroscience center, perhaps he is no longer affiliated there? He is still listed at Vejthani though. If has had trained in the UK than that togther with the fact that he is a pyschiatrist with (per the Vejthani website anyhow) a focus on adolescents makes him worth trying.

Your right website is a mess but if you go to the direct link he is listed. He only works one or two part days a week at Vejthani so suspect Piyavate is primary location.

Edit: After more search believe above link may be old as copyright date is 2007 and main Piyavate pages are 2010 and do not find a link to it. So he may indeed have moved from there.

Find he works at Manarom Hospital two days a week also per current schedule below.

Thanks for that. Dr. Chanin does sound like a good prospect. Seeing him at Vejthani will be more more convenient for the Op than Manarom, but the latter is where I had thought to refer him if he strikes out at the closer places. As a dedicated psych hospital it will surely have doctors specifically in ADHD.
