Chonburi Provincial Prison Raid Finds Drugs, Weapons

A team of police, military, and local administration officials has conducted a search for drugs and weapons at the Chonburi provincial prison, seizing a large number of instruments for drug use and mobiles phones.

Chonburi Governor Wichit Chartpaisit, along with over 200 soldiers, police officers, and civil defense volunteers, raided the Chonburi provincial prison where over 5,600 inmates stay.

The officers confiscated instruments for drug use, mobile phones, a notebook with records of debtors with total circulation of hundreds of thousands of baht.

Over the first eight months of the year, more than 400 mobile phones, 120 sharp steel objects, 7,800 methamphetamine pills, and 1,200 grams of crystal methamphetamine were seized from the prisoners.

Chonburi Province is ranked second in the country in terms of the number of drug-related cases.

Economic growth in the province has attracted a large number of illegal alien workers to work in the province, as well as drug smuggling.

Migrant workers are widely blamed for the drug smuggling outbreak.
