Poll: Yingluck government could only last with public approval

BANGKOK, 4 September 2011 (NNT)- ABAC Poll reveals that a handful of citizens silently appreciates, while others oppose the Government and its benefactors.

Upon the subject of “Government Stance and Public Support”, ABAC poll concluded that out of 2,614 respondents, 57.9 percent felt neutral about the new government’s political stance. 33.1 percent above 18 years of age in 17 different provinces, were supportive of the government and only 9 percent were unsupportive.

When categorized according to gender, 37.2 percent male and 30.2 percent female respondents concurred with Ms.Yingluck Shinawatra’s cabinet and their political direction. Among the young generation, a substantial group is in silent appreciation and support for the government. It is also the similar case with a handful of the elderly respondents who are more than 50 years of age. Both young and elderly groups comprise the foundation of supporters that greatly concurs with the new government.

Alternatively, when categorized according to education, the Poll revealed a certain 36.8 percent of respondents without college education greatly supports the government. The result shows a greater number than the graduate group themselves. In addition, the Poll suggests that government officials and farmers are among the largest group that greatly supports the government, whereas white-collar workers and students show the least support.

On the other hand, when categorized according to income, the respondents who receive 10000,-15000 THB in salaries support the government greatly. 84.1 %, however, feels that factors that shorten the lifespan of Ms. Yingluck’s government will indirectly damage the newly elected cabinet. These factors include corruption, nepotism, protests, and the reconciliation scheme that has yet to be delivered. Furthermore, threats, power-craving, and political wrong-doing also contributes to the cause.

Out of the total respondents 21.5% feel that the Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra’s new government should not deal with any political amnesty.
