Suvarnabhumi to introduce body scanners

The Airports of Thailand (AoT) has invested 100 million baht to improve security screen areas at Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

Suvarnabhumi Airport will upgrade its security system.

BANGKOK: -- Eight full body scanners will be implemented for maximum security checks, according to AoT senior executive vice-president and acting president Nirandra Theeranartsin.

Mezzanine floor which used to be a lounge ... I hope they are not talking about that area which used to be a restaurant and which was located, if I remember well, on the 5th floor. Now that would be the first time I will see a security check performed before immigration.

I am not going through no body scanners...this is not Ameri(k)a. If they want to search me, they can, but do not treat us like f**king criminals or terrorists. You can introduce them all you want, but I am not going through those highly radioactive emitters-10 times than normal; not to mention someone(s) viewing your naked body.

Even Germany has decided not to introduce these bodyscanners - after they tested them for 10 month at Hamburg airport!

They are not reliable and produced so many false alarms which called for time consuming additional checks by security personell that the German government decided they need to be developed further before they are introduced at all airports.

800.000 people used the scanners during the test period and in 49 % they caused false alarms !

The OP's linked article goes on about a joint AOT/King Power promotion for those spending 5,000 baht at duty-free.

A still other commercial promotion is a sweepstakes entry for spending 500 baht spent at any of the dining facilities. The funny thing about that is remembering the posted sign offering Phad Thai at one of the establishments there for 510 baht.

Its my understanding that there are 2 different types of body scanner 1 which works kinda like a x-ray which I presume is the 1 you are refering to and the other that kinda works like an m.r.i which does not give of radiation, if its the second then I have no real problem with it as long as I don't have to start to check in 3 hours earlier than I normally would but if its the first then i'm with you on that 1 and wont be keen on going through it.

I'd rather fly naked then go in these cancer machines. It's been statistically proven these machines kill more people from cancer then they do save people from terrorists and that's not even mentioning people that have gone through these things with box cutters, etc without problems.

What happens when the escalators break down which is often? Go up or down the stairwell? Wait for the lift that says "this lift stops only on floor 1, 2, 4" and will hold about five people with luggage. Let's see, 45,000,000/365 = 123,287 passengers per day. Any given day that the ecalator breaks down means 123,287/5 = 24,657 trips up or down the lift. Then there is the average 15 minute wait at immagration. Sounds like a plan to me. At CNX they do a security check before they let you into the building.

Given the fact that many security staff are females of breeding age, it could be advantageous to request a pat down.

At CNX they do a security check before they let you into the building.

And a second one AFTER the immigration/before boarding.

Just drove past a new building, on Sukhumvit Highway in Pattaya, big enough to match the large DIY supermarkets in town, with plenty of car parking. The sign outside announced "King Power Duty Free shopping for him and her" (or similar words).

I presume "You look, buy and collect at Swampy". If so, why such a big store, when only a showroom?

This blindly aping the USA is not in Thailand's best interest, only a handful of the elite making the dough.

I would so very much like to see Thailand find it's own way and do it their own way but I'm a dreamer.
