RaoulDuke
I was bored so I was reading the warnings on the USA State Dept's page on Myanmar (which they insist on calling Burma). There were a couple things they mentioned which made me wonder if they were valid warnings. They mentioned that the only email service which can be accessed is gmail, and that one person was fined $2000 just for sending a photo via email through the hotel Internet connection. I know they would have restrictions on Internet access, but is it really that tightly controlled that you cannot email a touristy photo without paying a fee/fine (nothing political, obviously)? They also made mention of a restriction on electronic devices. Has anyone had a problem bringing something like an iPhone or a digital camera? It seems like mostly scare tactics and propaganda, but I imagine there is at least some trace element of truth to their warnings. GreenSnapper
Yep, it is all utter nonsense. There is a harsh economic embargo on Myanmar and that's why they paint it in darkest colors. Go and see yourself, it is a very pleasant country.
