Govt Urged to Clarify Stance on 2011 MoU with Cambodia

The Senate is calling on the government to clarify its stance regarding an MOU with Cambodia signed in the year 2001 and to gather suggestions about how to best settle the long-standing border conflict.

At a Senate meeting, appointed Senator Khamnoon Sitthisaman asked Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra about the guidelines for a resolution regarding the land and maritime border disputes with Cambodia, which are linked to rights to natural resources, particularly the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2001.

He also suggested that the government hold a parliamentary session to hear members' opinions and set up committees to monitor the conflict and to seek public opinions on the issue.

Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit, speaking on behalf of the prime minister, insisted that the government will work to protect national interests.

He said Tthe 2001 MOU underlines the negotiation framework for settling the territorial disputes.

He added that the Cabinet will issue a statement declaring its stance regarding the MOU after deliberating its pros and cons.

Regarding the planned visit to Cambodia by ousted former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Deputy Prime Minister, Police Captain Chalerm Yoobumrung said the ex-premier has the right to travel to any country that welcomes him.

Meanwhile, Democrat Party Leader Abhisit Vejjajiva told the public to keep an eye on Yingluck and her older brother as the two will be in Cambodia around the same time, and may discuss the benefits of sharing energy resources in the overlapping maritime areas.

the visit of Thaksin on Sept. 16 and stay until Sept. 24 is to join Asian Economic Future Conference, organized by the Royal Academy of Cambodia

Does anyone know anything about this so-called Asian Economic Future Conference?

Outside this article, there was absolutely no information about it anywhere that I could find.

Even the organizer's own website makes no mention at all of this event.

Another feather in Thaksin's cap? A keynote speaker engagement for a fluffy non-event.

Sir, if you can't find it, it doesn't exist. My hat is off to you for having sources to back up your postings.

My sources not good enough for you? Check the other paper as well and my replies and then apply some alternative thinking. Seek and ye shall find, but if it doesn't back up what you want to believe, fair enough.

Well the other paper confuses it even more. Their first paragraph refers to the Asia Economic Forum (AEF) Conference and then later refers to Hun Sens quote above about Asia Economic Future Conference. My hunch is that Thaksin will be attending the Asia Economic Forum conference whatever it's called, the one organised by the University of Cambodia and the AEF. We shall see no doubt on the 16th.

The interesting part is not whatever organisation or whatever occasion. The item of interest is 'PM Hun Sen said'. Makes you wonder what PM Yingluck will discuss on the 15th. Probably only shake hands and btw my brother will discuss the rest ?

Pure coincidence, only fanatic anti-Thaksinista would read a government conspiracy in this

Yep, you're right.

Being gentle of nature and giving you the benefit of the doubt, I assume you refer to

"Thaksin's return is overdue : Yongyuth

Yongyuth strongly implied that helping Thaksin would not be seen by the red shirts as using the election mandate to assist just one man. Absolving Thaksin had become a common symbol of justice for the reds, he said.

A high-ranking Pheu Thai source said Thaksin still insists he will only return to Thailand if his jail sentence is revoked. "He always said he wouldn't spend even a day in prison, and that remains his stance as of today."

http://www.nationmul...h-30165135.html

No, I'm referring to the "conspiracy theory". Yingluck is spending one day in each of the countries she is visiting. According to some / most members of the forum she is constantly on the phone to Thaksin asking for orders - why would she need to meet with him in person. If your conspiracy theory is based on the Hun Sen quote saying that Thaksin is not there to discuss the oil / gas etc. how about thinking the obvious.

'When asked whether Thaksin was visiting Cambodia to discuss the oil / gas etc by a reporter, Hun Sen replied..................' But then you wouldn't have a conspiracy theory..................

Thank you.

Seems to be just another of the bogus pomp and circumstance he vainly attempts to immerse himself in.

Visiting Cambodia should make it easy for the Thai Police to capture him and bring him back to Thailand for trial. He still is considered to be a fugitive on the run, or am I wrong?

The PM don´t have time to fly to Dubai. So she meeting BIG Brother in Cambodia.:whistling:

A hint for the police: :whistling: It is highly likely he will fly Thai Airways from Dubai on Thai Airways Intl TG518 arriving 06:40, transiting at Swampy to the Thai Airways Intl TG580 Phnom Penh.

Maybe this will help capture the fugitive. I did not find him guilty, the courts did and I am only trying to help. Send in that US Bounty Hunter :Dave:"Dog", and Mt T will be trussed and hogtied :lock: within minutes.

more likely he's presently in Brunei and will take a direct flight on his private jet to PP.

Thai-Cambodian relations have appeared to stabilise since Yingluck took power, after an eruption of deadly military clashes on their shared border earlier this year.

Is the stability only because of Yingluck's / Thaksin's election win? Because Thaksin is his "eternal friend"?

Hun Sen, who has described Thaksin as his "eternal friend" said last month that the "nightmare" of strained ties with Thailand was over and vowed to work with Bangkok to resolve the row, which centres around a 900-year-old temple.

Did Hun Sen inflame the row in order to destabilise the Abhisit government, possibly by request of his eternal friend? Now that the job is done, there's no need to inflame any row?

Did anyone actually find his story insightful or funny? The message I interpret of the story is that it's fine to break a promise if the act of breaking it is in one's nature. I actually found it disturbing that such a message comes from someone who is now the true leader of Thailand.

Who even cares about passing 1st grade when you have all those billions? Then again "Are you smarter than (not then) a 5th grader" merely shows up the "intelligence" (not) of many people of that nation.

"Apart from being a friend, I will officially host Thaksin as a guest speaker," Hun Sen said at a graduation ceremony.

The Nation rather than start each article with

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra
which seems to honor him shouldn't it actually read:

Fugitive criminal, ousted ex-prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra which actually tells the truth. Or has the Nation forgotten that is is supposed to report the truth.

To give him his full title would leave no room for the article.
