My friends wife (who is Estonian) was after a trip to Malaysia told by the Thai immigration in Trang that she no longer needed to apply for a visa before entering Thailand because of the recent addition of several (mainly eastern) European countries to the list of countries that don't require one. They happily crossed the border but when they later that day arrived at their apartment in Phuket they were told that the police had been there looking for her and after getting in contact with them they found out that Estonia was not on that list after all. She was told that if she didn't travel down to Trang immediately to apply for a visa (a seven hour bus ride), she would be put in jail there and then.

The new rules state that the following countries no longer require VISA ON ARRIVAL:

Czech Republic

Hungary

Liechtenstein

Poland

Slovak Republic

Slovenia
