Loi Kratong Suggestions?

I tried to book a table on the dinner boat cruise that the Riverview Restaurant runs for Loi Kratong, but they have been sold out. I called the beginning of August, and they were full then. Next I went to the outdoor rooftop restaurnant at the Porn Ping Hotel and the roof is booked that eveing for a wedding.

I am looking for a nice place to sit and relax and enjoy the scenery in the air--and have come to my wits end of trying to find a place. Does anyone have a suggestion or two for November 10th?

Thanks.

It is not the river, but the Art Cafe has a big room on the 3rd floor that looks right at Thapae Gate where they are sending up 1,000s of hot air ballons and celebrating. They often have a party with food for a fixed price, but I do not know for sure about this year.

Pretty much anywhere you go it is a happy time. It is what you make of it. But I do suggest you do avoid areas with very large crowds (always along the parade routes which can become very crowded and attract fiends with small explosives) unless, of course, you like to celebrate in crowds. There are lots of quieter places, as well. Come to think of it, I know of one young boy who lost a finger when what he was playing with exploded in his hand. Sad.

It depends on your health and physical stamina. I just enjoy walking in the crowds taking photos. Everyone is having a good time and you never know who you might end up the evening with. I usually start walking around Thai Pae gate and wander down Loi Kroh road to the foot bridge and cross the Ping. Then I wander back up the river to Nakorn bridge and back into town. Then, I'll wander around the market area and see what is happening. I always have a good time and often meet friends along the way. Occasionally I'll meet people who invite me back to their place for a party. Sometimes I just finish the evening playing pool with my girl friends. I usually take photos of them in their silk outfits and give them prints the next day. If you just want to watch the fire works then Thai Pae gate or Nakorn or Narawat bridge is the place to be. Or, just go up some hotel tower in the city and watch from there. I hardly ever spend much money on Loi Kratong. If I want a quiet evening I do it some other time at the Riverside or Brasserie.
