Crackdown on Firework Shops Launched for Loi Krathong Festival safety
As the multi-coloured lanterns and twinkling lights of Loi Krathong Festival approaches, concerns over firework safety has prompted the metropolitan police of Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, to spearhead a rigorous clampdown on firework retailers. At the forefront of this campaign is Police Colonel Anek Srikitrat, Deputy Commander of Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Police. Alongside Superintendent of Nakhon Ratchasima City Police Station, Pol. Col. Suthinan Kongchaemdee, and District Chief Chananan Khumkhong, their objective is to safeguard innocent lives through enforcement of a strictly regulated firework sales protocol. The team's primary focus is protecting the city's children from potential risk of harm from explosive devices. In a combined effort by authorities from the Mueang Police Station and the Volunteer Defence Corps, a string of scrupulous inspections were carried out at three major firework vendors in the city - Ajarn Puang Fireworks Shop, Ajarn Prem Korat Fireworks Shop, and Uncle Pong’s Shop. Detailed assessments of sales permits and thorough examination of firework products were performed to ascertain their compliance with safety standards. Deputy Commander Srikitrat remarked, “Our desire is to significantly minimise the risk factors associated with the use of fireworks during the Festival. We harbour particular concern for children who could potentially make purchases devoid of adult supervision.” The rigorous inspections uncovered that all scrutinised vendors were in possession of the appropriate licences, coupled with a clear emphasis on safety. Most firework products found were low-impact, colourful beauties designed for maximum visual impact while minimising harmful risk. Moreover, fire extinguishers were noticeably stationed within convenient reach in the event of a sudden mishap. Vendors were further obligated to strictly enforce age restrictions on purchasers and encourage parental supervision of their use by the younger population. The officials cautioned about reckless modifications of fireworks by children, which could significantly amplify potential harm. “Safety above all else is our principal commitment, especially for young ones who might not fully discern the risks,” intimated District Chief Khumkhong.
