Pattaya Immigration and DSI crack human trafficking operation

PATTAYA: -- A human trafficking operation has been uncovered by Pattaya Immigration officers in cooperation with the Department of Special Investigations (DSI). Initially the DSI received a letter from the Laos Embassy in Bangkok who detailed allegations made to them by a 21 year old Laos woman in July this year concerning a Karaoke Bar in the Plu Ta Luang area in Sattahip District which was accused of illegally employing hostesses from Laos. A raid of the Jay Om Karaoke Bar in the early hours of Saturday took place and 16 Laos nationals were detained along with the Thai owners of the bar, Khun Rangsan aged 46 and Khun Orawan aged 48. At the Immigration Office evidence was collated, which included slips of paper indicating the earning of each hostess along with condoms and money which had been handed to the hostesses in exchange for sexual services

Lao Women Held Hostage In Chonburi Brothel

Seventeen Laotian women were held hostage in a karaoke cum brothel in Plutaluang, Sattahip. The women were forced to work as prostitutes 12 hours per day. The Lao Embassy in Bangkok was alerted. The women have been detained. One escaped.

Sattahip, September 17, 2011[PDN]; Pol.Col. Choosak Panusumporn, Superintendent, Immigration Police, Chonburi province was notified to coordinate with the Lao Embassy regarding a request for help from Ms Joi age 21 Laos citizen from See Sa-ard, Muang Mat, Vientiane.

Miss Joi telephoned the Lao Embassy to help her leaving a karaoke shop called Nong Orm in Tambon Plutaluang, Sattahip where she was forced to work as a prostitute and detained for five months without pay.

Pol. Lt. Col. Prapan Prasarnsuk, Deputy Superintendent Chonburi, Pol. Lt. Col. Komvit Pattanarat, Director Human Anti-Trafficking office and Pol. Maj. Jatuporn Aroonrerkthavil (DSI), arrived with a warrant from Pattaya provincial court dated September 17 together with Mrs Piyanart Pulpipat an officer of the child and family welfare organisation and Ms Urairat Chookaew a psychologist.
