Does anyone know the proper procedure for an American to apply for a tourist visa from a location where there is no Thai consulate. I live on Guam, U.S.A. (nearest Thai consulate in the U.S. would be Honolulu), but I think it would be the same procedure as applying from any place where one cannot apply face to face but has to do it by mail and/or internet.Thanks.

Hafa adai, Send a self addressed stamped envelope with a requst for a tourist visa application to the Royal Thai consulate in Honolulu, (google for address), they will send the form and further instructions.

Si Yu'us Ma'ase. Do you know, by the way, if I will have to send my passport with the application, or will a photocopy work?

Check via email that this is still the consulate, and that they've not moved.

Hi,

The address above is an old one. Below is the address and phone number as of 2010.

The very friendly old Japanese couple have retired.

The Consulate is still operated by the couples son.

You can down load the visa form off the internet. I would suggest the best idea is to call them to see what you need to send to them along with your passport.

As you do not reside in Honolulu I would also suggest contacting the consulate in Portland Oregon. Is is much more professional operation.

As said the Portland office is very professional. Sent my application and passport one day express mail it was recieved and mailed the same day back. I wasn't at home the next day when it arrived and had to wait till the third day. Down load application form from inernet fill out send with passport, money, and return mail.

Thanks for this info. I guess I will have to check to see if there is some requirement that, as a Guam resident, I am required to have it done in Honolulu, or if it can be sent to any consulate in the U.S.

I finally got around to phoning the Honolulu consulate. I have also emailed the Portland consulate, waiting for a reply. Here is a bit of an update.

1. For Honolulu, the Iwilei Rd. address and phone no. are correct.

2. My information was that a 60-day tourist visa could be extended in Thailand (I think someone said it was 1900 baht for each 1-month extension). The assistant at the Honolulu consulate, however, informs me that, on the contrary, it is necessary to exit and re-enter Thailand. Thus, a multiple entry visa seems desirable ($40 for each entry up to 3). These rules seem to change continually. Does anyone know the latest?

3. She also said I could download the visa application from www.thai-la.net, but this didn't seem to work. I did manage to download it, however, at http://www.consular....cationform.pdf. Who knows how old this form is? It asks for 2 photos, but I believe only 1 is required. It also asks for the name and address of a guarantor both locally and in Thailand. I wonder if this is really required.

Any further information will be much appreciated.

A tourist visa is routinely extended for 30 days upon application and payment of 1,900 baht by any immigration office inside Thailand and there has not been any change to that policy. But this is only available one time (you seemed to be under impression could obtain more).

For guarantee I always put 'self' just to fill the blanks. Leaving it empty would likely also be accepted for US passport.

Thanks. This is helpful. So according to these rules, if I want to stay more than 90 days but less than 120, instead of applying for an extension, I could get a double entry for $80, leave before the 60 days are up, and get another 60 days when re-entering, right? Is 60 days automatic with a tourist visa, even re-entering overland from Cambodia?

Moe 666--in the end I took your advice. Portland did seem a bit more "professional" based on email replies. It seems that they did mail it back the same day they received it. Total turn around time from Guam was 7 days, which is not bad considering it had to cross the Pacific twice, and there was a Sunday and a holiday intervening, so if I had sent it on a Monday I would have gotten it back the same week. All in all, a successful experience. Thanks for the advice.
