2Nd Hand, Used Wheel Chair

Featured Replies

Got a friend coming in from the U.S. next spring along with his wife. She had a stroke last year and is recovering but not 100%, can walk in spurts, talk, does pretty well on her own but still uses a wheel chair for most mobility. They're looking at a trip down to the beaches of Krabi.

He just sent me and email, copy below, asking about a 2nd hand one so they'd not have to haul her heavy one over.

Ideas??

This might be a crazy question, but is there anywhere in Bangkok to buy a used wheelchair? See with Brenda we gotta come up with some beach buggy type wheelchair, so my idea is to get an older wheelchair and tape some large inter tubes to the hand thingamagiggies on the wheels, so that it is the inter tubes which hit the sand. Can you visualize it? We could do it with Brenda's regular chair, but it so frigging heavy I don't like to take it out of the house. We have this lighter small wheel traveling chair that we take on trips. Thus the need for a used wheelchair in Thailand.

most of the wheelchairs are given to the hospital when the user dies.

There are medical device rental agents in Thailand. Shouldn't be hard to find.

I remember seeing a guy in Pattaya on the beach and actually going into the water while in a wheelchair. It was a pretty high tech looking machine appearing to have a carbon fiber frame with wide balloon tires, much lower to the ground than normal.

Probably expensive as hell but he appeared to be having a hell of a time. Later saw him on Walking St., having an even better time!
