Picture Translation!

I'm not actually sure if this is Thai or Khmer, but can someone help me translate this? It's on a bracelet that my friend bought in South East Asia somewhere.

Its neither, it isnt Lao or Burmese either.

Could it be Chinese or Japanese?

I think it is Japanese. It's not either Thai or Khmer.

It's Tibetan; and is a prayer along the lines of Om Ma ni Pe me Hum, though I think this is slightly different. Compare here (scroll down)

I'm gonna try to find the exact translation. I've been looking around the net for Tibetan message boards along the lines of this one. Any ides?
