My iMac 27 keeps shutting down. In the middle of what I am doing it just shuts itself off. When I restart it everything works like before and the screen is just like it was before shutting down. The top of my screen/computer is very hot. I have read where there is a way to increase the fan speed, something I should do? how do I do it? I cant hear any fan working at all, is this normal?

thanks

smc fan control. Not sure it supports iMac's tho.

It may or may not be a overhearing problem. download install istat menus have a look at all the component temperatures. And also Activity monitor see if anything is hogging the processor.

If you cannot feel the airflow out the bottom of the iMac sounds like a fan is not working. istat menus will assist with fault finding on this also.

27" imacs all tend to get very hot on the top so may not be the issue.
