Another effective 'green' solution to high household power bills is the use of black plastic irrigation pipe. a coil of this cheap pipe makes an exceptional hot water service, whether on the roof or laid out on the ground.

What happens when it rains? does it leak in through all the holes?

I saw that on BBC they were hyping it up in the intro to be some kind of ground breaking invention...so freaking dumb.

Why not just use clear plastic roofing sheet instead of the opaque ones, they are the same price?

That's what we did in the area behind our shop. Just replaced like 3 of the sheets with clear plastic and it's light as day back there.

Or why not cut a few window holes in the wall?

Surely rain is going to leak between the cut hole in the roof sheet and the plastic bottle (unless they use some kind of caulking to seal it, which they appear not to)
