Hi, I am heading over to Phuket in Nov (Karon) and want to know if I should go with the DTAC Happy Internet sim and if I would need to then recharge to say 300/400 baht and change plan to Unlimited 3G 49 Baht a day? I just had heard that EDGE is pretty slow so I thought if I was going to tether the phone to a netbook that it would be too slow to use the 300 free minutes included on the sim....would this be the case? How slow really is "slow" on EDGE for just normal browsing of internet etc....not like I will be downloading movies? I only want this for 4 days as the hotel we are staying at over this time would charge me 800baht for unlimited wifi for 4 days but apparently it doesn't actually work in the rooms (apparently the walls are too thick, so they say to people once they have shelled out the cash) and where it does work it is slow. What I really want to know is how do I stop this 49 baht from coming out each day, eating into my credit after I don't need it any more (i.e. how do I turn off this plan so that I can just make calls etc) as I would still like to be able to use the credit for sms and calls if necessary the rest of the time I am there, as our second hotel has free, good wifi. Is it just easier to get the 299Baht unlimited for the week as by the time they wanted to take more credit out we wouldn't neet the sim card anymore anyway.....My use of the internet would be checking emails, bank accounts surfing net, checking news etc etc.....would rather use the netbook for this rather than the phone. p.s. Will this Nokia e63 work over there (have tested it tethered to our netbook here in Australia) and is there a 3G internet signal in Karon anyway?? (as this whole question may be a mute point if I can't even use either the phone or 3G :ermm: )

You have to renew the daily and weekly plans proactively. They are not renewed automatically. So you can control your subscription/costs.

Truemove H and AIS may have 3G in your locale.

just tested the tether again and even though my phone was on 3g here the most I could get was 460Kpps download on the netbook anyway as I didn't realise the e63 modem was so slow. It is the only phone I have with a modem so I guess I will be limited by it's speed anyway. I will use some of the included data of 300 minutes with the 3g once I activate it with *3000# CALL (apparently 384Kbps max) to start and then will try 1 day of 3g max 42Mbps over there and see if there is a difference. It might be almost the same anyway, and 300 minutes would prob be all I need anyway for the 4 or 5 days........didn't realise that the e63 was so slow as it wasn't my phone, it was my daugher's before she got a iphone 4, and I don't use it for data.

Thanks for the info for the subscriptions as it isn't clear on the DTAC website how the subscription works for 1 day or 1 week subscriptions....I just assumed it kept taking the credit until you stopped it.
