I've only got 4 blank sheets left in my passport which is good until 2013. In Dec I haveta get an income declaration affidavit for extension-of-stay purposes from the embassy and wanted to coordinate that activity with the issue of a renewed passport. The issue of a new extension of stay by thai immigration should follow soon after and I want to have the new stamp in the new passport. How far in advance should I apply to renew my passport? I wanna limit the number of trips to BKK for these purposes.

What's the maximum number of pages available for renewed US passports these days?

thanks in advance...

Last time I had it done in Bangkok it was ready in a couple of hours. Singapore was the same the passport before that. With today's technology it takes 10 to 14 days. In so many ways this world has moved backwards. I don't know if missing the old days is a result of age or a result of reality. Probably both I guess.

They used to use stock passports and print data on site - new security is all are printed in the US as required with id chip inside for anything but emergency use. Most countries now do this.

52 pages but you have to ask for it.

The application form has a block to check to indicate you want the larger passport. No additional charge (vice $83, or such, to add pages).

Do you get to keep the old passport as a memento?

Yes - they punch some holes in the cover and stamp 'CANCELLED" on the signature page then it's your souvenir.;)
