Where Can I Find This Dish, Smoked Mackeral?

I'm looking for a take-away dish, it is a smoked mackeral, about 15 inches long, always on a styrofoam plate, covered with gladwrap and comes with two sauce sachets. One is a dark sweet sauce, the other is a greenish, hot, spicy one.

I'm talking Bangkok, ok. I used to find them on Samseng Road, always at street stalls, but they haven't been there for a long time.

In April I did buy them near the overpass bridge , not far from the "China World" shopping centre. I was there today and no luck! Of course my Thai is lacking.

Their usually about 80-90 bht, depending on the size of the fish, absolutely delicious. Any help appreciated.

best Saba ive ever had was in Phuket on the beach rd in a little place at the souther tip of the island called Rawai.

b.b.qed and sitting on the beach looking out at the crystal blue sea and thinking, man life doesn't get much better than this !

I rather doubt it's smoked mackerel. Smoking isn't a technique used much in Thai cookery. However, grilled mackerel is available in pretty well every supermarket here. You may need to buy the sauces separately, though.

Definitely smoked, I've done a bit of hot-smoking.

You know what they say about smoking fish, hell of a job to roll'em and worse still to keep the soggy buggers alight.

I'm still looking and when I find one I'll photo it.

The saba don't appeal to me...
