Must I Go To The Province To Discover Assets?

Featured Replies

I won a judgement in court and am trying to collect on it. My Bangkok attorney claims the procedure has changed and that he cannot discover a defendant's immovable assets, like homes or land, from the system at the land office in BKK, if the assets are in, say, Uttaradit. It used to be nationwide, he says, and wants to charge me for the trips to various provinces. Anyone hear of this?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge on this topic. Naturally, I'd like to know the truth right away.

It is my understanding that the land title documentation is created in each province and that there is no central location where it can all be accessed. A few years ago the land office in Phuket (I believe) "lost" a lot of land deeds for land that some rich people seemed to have stolen....this was a big "problem". If there had been a central repository for copies of these deeds then this would not have been a problem as the centeral documents could have easily been used to recreate the information....it is easier to falsify documents if they are held in one place only and easier still if this place is far from the seats of power so that a reasonably small bribe could induce a small change to be made to the documents.
