Reasonable Sports Car For Under 10 Million

Tut Tut, l am referring to the video, foot down, no let off, weaving in and out, VERY different from day to day traffic dealing here. ;)

Yeah but you're talking about the roads/traffic around Ubon T/A - even I rarely get above 100km/hr up there :) There's plenty of places in TH where you can put the foot down safely, so long as you're being sensible about it... but you already know that because it comes up again every few weeks here :D

My previous car was a Nissan Bluebird SSS 2.0 turbo and on certain spots from Chiang Mai to Chon Buri I could cruise along comfortably at 140-160 kph. However, I don't do that anymore though. :)

I knew it - You have ;) - but fair enough, he is weaving a little - but the roads are relatively quiet. How fast would you esimate he is traveling ? 140 kph - 160 kph...

I remember a thread a while back when the forum was asked how fast we had travelled on the express way... I've done 230 kph+ before bottling it on an empty stretch of express way and I regularly sneak up beyond 180 kph (again on empty or very quiet expressways)..... This video certainly seems as if these guys in the corvette were traveling slower than that.

And referring to the video - When a car pulled out in front of him it didn't appear as though he had to apply the breaks with any excessive force - to be honest I really do not see anything so crazy in the video (and I've seen plenty of crazy driving videos in Thailand)... I think we're being holier than thou if we criticize this driver.

I suspect that the Op in his sports car might end up having to drive in a very similar manner if he is it enjoy his car. I for one would not line up to criticize him for doing so providing that once again the driving is within reasonable limits (which in my opinion the corvette is).

However, back on topic.... as this discussion has developed there may be other options... A niche 4x4 (Range Rover) plus a car for Track Days... So: A sports car to add to the list: Westfield... Is there still a factory which makes Westfield in Thailand ?

I froze the video and the peak I saw was 120. Don't know why all the other cars seemed so slow though.

Perhaps it was USA MPH. :D

equals 192kmh, slightly above safe tuna speed. nothing for a cruze tho ;)

Corvette is one to add to the list... how much are they in Thailand ? (LHD though)....

This is their top end ZR1 at US $110,300 6.2L LS9 638-hp supercharged V8 engine. Just guessing with that engine triple it to 330,000 = nearly 10 million Baht. Their other models though run $55,000 or less. Believe someone knows excise tax and duties on this type of vehicle? I've heard between 200 - 300%.

cars (non hybrid) above 3000cc/220hp, its approx 330% all included

Total price if a personal import would be around 15M Baht inc. freight and all taxes. A commercial importer would need to add their profit margin on top though, so add another 1-3M Baht for that.

Could be as I see the steering wheel is on the left so perhaps a US import (grey). Also the speedometer is maxed at 210 - even my Nissan showed around 240 kph. ;)

Oh!!! for the Bentley. :(

Yep, as an all-weather, all-roads car, it's hard to go past the Continental. Luxury, ground clearance, handling and performance..

But for a weekend fun car in this price range, the Cayman strikes a great balance IMHO - tons of fun, reasonably quick, very easy to handle, and not too bad for comfort too.

Some of our Malaysian team are coming to TH in the middle of next month for the Porsche Club DOTY, so if you live anywhere around the Sadao to Chiangrai route, keep your eyes open for a convoy of around 100 Porsche's (police escorted), heh. Mine will be staying at home however (it's too slow for that crowd) - I'll be co-piloting the CEO's 997 911 Turbo S though ;)

Looks like my dreams come true, a sports car and 10 MB to spend! Oops, not me, just another lucky guy.

But seriously, I don't think you can get a better car here for under 10 Mio than the Nissan GT-R. Downside, only 2 seats. So if you have more than one girlfriend to transport (which is a very likely perspective with such a car here in Thailand), you are in trouble. Same for the R8.

That brings up the question: What exactly is a sports car? What defines it as opposed to a not-sports car? The performance (on track), the power, the line, the number of seats? You must define that for yourself, what is important to you.

But you can certainly also have fun (with 4 doors) with cars like a Benz C63, am Bimmer M3 or M5 or even an RS5.

On a somewhat smaller scale I do have a lot of fun with an S5 (4 doors), which has had a visit by the ABT Brothers and now stems a hefty 420 HP through a 7 ratio double clutch paddle shifting gearbox on 4 wheels. You should see the grin on my face when in "dynamic mode" I shift upwards without lifting the accelerator. The sound reminds me of the turbo era in Formula 1 (these tiny 1500 cc engines with 1200 HP) with the explosion in the exhaust every time they shifted.

So, go out and have fun!

bingo! my Granny would have cursed you in the 1980s if you had blocked the left lane with tuna speed on a German autobahn the way American tourists* used to.

*little did they know that (if caught) overtaking them on the right meant three months no driver's license and a hefty fine <_<

....or how about a MINI COOPER S JCW GP....like I have! Not outright sport, but with its supercharger and light weight and only 2 seats comes pretty close. You can get one 2nd hand for around 2m and a little for a good low mileage model (mine has only 15000 miles on it) and have plenty of money to spare...to buy a big limo or so! It is exclusive, eye catching, goes plenty fast, sounds gorgeous with its exhaust pops....and girls luv it! B)

Don't think so...being a manual and a hard clutch...would not call it a girl car...!

Very true! I have a lot of friends with Mini's, and they are all girls or metrosexual men!!!

I would almost rather be seen in a VW Beetle ABT or the 2nd generation SLK!

What about a Volvo C30 Polestar? Although it might be slightly above the 10 Mn baht budget. But it would certainly be a fun ride even on shitty rural roads and you would probably be the only one driving one here...

To me just looking at one it's a girls car. As you say folk look at it but that is the rarity angle in LOS. Saw one up here and the mrs had to point it out cos she'd never seen one. My pal in UK bought one and l thought then, why pay that amount of cash for this type of ride, and the figure in LOS is madness unless your a rich guy and wants to buy his lady a run around.

I fooled around with the original BMC Mini's decades ago and for me the BMW Mini is a gimmick. Just my opinion. :)

I'm inclined to agree, the command stalks look and feel like they're out of a kid's toy... They tried way too hard to make it a fun car, something that came naturally to the original!

But you have to admit, for a small, modern FWD car, they have pretty good performance, especially the Cooper S or JCW models. But hardly worth the cost here.

during weekends there are more Minis in Hua Hin, than Yaris :whistling:

Less than a million, Fiesta 1,6 S hatch dsg, swedish Ford kompressor kit. More fun, more unique, even in pink it wouldnt be girlie :D

What about a Volvo C30 Polestar?

As a male under 60 I couldn't drive a Volvo, and as a hetrosexual I certainly couldn't drive a car called a "pole star" :o

hehe :)

As a male over 60, l would love a T5-R Estate. :)

Well i kind of get your point, but it is the ultimate hatchback/rally car. And as far as I have read it is only labeled P+, and I think the Volvo image is improving with their new S60, XC60 and C30.

But polestar still sounds like a gogo bar :(
