A Month Later, Jet Ski Registration Falls Short

A month later, jet ski registration falls short

PATTAYA: -- Nearly a month after demanding that jet ski vendors register at city hall or face criminal action, city officials are still mulling how best to end the seemingly unending string of embarrassing scams against tourists.

At a Sept. 28 Pattaya City Hall meeting, Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh said that while 168 beach vendors did register their 520 jet skis, many have not. Failure to register, however, hasn’t led to any repercussions for scofflaws, who Ronakit vowed in late August would be “classified as criminals” if they didn’t comply.

Instead, the deputy mayor again summoned Marine Office bureaucrats to discuss new regulations to cover all water-related sports businesses on area beaches.

Old laws and new laws wont work because the law enforcement encourages criminal activity.

Absolutely amazing. Why even bother with registration as all that does is to delay matters and give a list of operators. What needs to be implemented was the earlier suggestion of ticket booths for any jet ski rentals with the rental fee to include full insurance cover. A simple suggestion that would work if only the officials in City Hall were interested in doing something about the situation rather than being SEEN to be doing something while actually just sitting on their hands!

I think they could have ended this story at the point where it says: "The city, however, has no idea ..."

Only one solution.

Same as on Western beaches,a lifeguard who sits on a high chair that overlooks the the beach. In this case instead of having a whistle and those life saving aids he carries a riot gun and whenever he detects a scam he is allowed to use it without even having to leave his chair.

First time I have ever heard of a Scam that needs to be Registered,

It's not known as"Amazing" Thailand for no reason.
