October 7, 201114 yr Shipyard platform collapses in the Philippines, killing 5 2011-10-08 04:53:43 GMT+7 (ICT) MANILA, PHILIPPINES (BNO NEWS) -- Five people were killed on late Friday morning when a shipyard platform collapsed in the Philippines, officials said. Several others were injured. The accident happened at around 10.20 a.m. local time when a steel platform collapsed in Barangay Cawag, located in the municipality of Subic in Zambales province. It happened as more than a dozen workers were standing on top of it, officials told Inquirer News. Chief Superintendent Edgardo Ladao, the provincial director of the Region 3 police force, confirmed that five people were killed in the collapse at the Keppel Subic Shipyard. He said eight others were injured and rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes International Hospital in Olongapo City. According to Ladao, the workers were carrying out repair work on the MV Tombarra.
