Navy warns of high tides in mid and late-Oct

BANGKOK, 8 October 2011 (NNT) – The Hydrographic Department of the Royal Thai Navy has issued a warning of additional flooding in the lower central and eastern regions in the middle and the end of this month due to surging tides.

According to the announcement of the Hydrographic Department, the sea level is forecast to rise during 12-16 October and also 28-30 October. Therefore, people residing in the lower part of the Central Plains, including Bangkok, and the East are encouraged to be on high alert of river runoff and inundation, especially during 13-17 October and 26-31 October.

Out of the flood-stricken provinces along the Chao Phraya River, comprising Nakhon Sawan, Sing Buri, Chai Nat, Uthai Thani, Ang Thong, Saraburi, Suphan Buri, Lop Buri and Ayutthaya, the latter two are expected to see the problem becoming more severe and widespread, given the persisting rainfall coupled with the approaching mass of excess water from the North.
