what are the damages? if only the digitizer is broken easy to fix if the units are not turning on and/or took salty water you can throw them away.

trying to dry them out for the last couple of days,

plugged in the Ipad 2 today for the first time and was surprised to see it started.

it rebooted but then the screen went funny ( still water inside but only moisture like in a watch )

got a thai IT shop looking at the Ipad1, they recon they can take it apart NOT like the Ipad2

NO Salty water only pool water

the Ipad 2 is the one we would like to get back up and running

cheers

The first rule is: If there's still moisture/water inside, TURN IT OFF. Right away.

You need to dry them completely, then see if they still work. If there's actual water damage, it depends what's broken. Some things can be fixed, others can't. But if they went underwater (angry gf incident?) - then there is a good chance they will be fine just as long as they are not turned on while still wet.

Fill an airtight container with uncooked rice, and put the iPads inside. Leave for a few days.

De-humidifier would work too but it's hard to find. On the mainland Home Pro has that but it's hard to find, hidden in the cleaning supplies section, amongst all sorts of smell improvers.

Hi, Thanks for your feedback,

I did try the rice and salt in an airtight container for about 3 days leaving it out in direct sunlight

when i took the Ip2 out of the airtight container i switched it on & it started up but with visible condensation under the screen, I shut it down but from that day on its not started up again.

The Ipad 1 was given to a thai guy ( Sumchai's IT store ) he tried to repair but without any luck.

Im wondering if there is any place in Bkk or other that maybe able to repair.

how both ended up at the bottom of the pool was a freak accident,

Both were only submerged for a mater of seconds

Thanks again

Any of the small iPhone / iPad repair places should be able to help; what they do is they take it apart, let it dry, and put it back together. If you had it in rice for three days and it was still wet then I guess there was really a lot of water inside.

I had the above procedure done on my water damaged iPhone 3GS - alas, it was too late. The problem with mine was that the water made it turn on and off constantly until the battery ran out. So that wasn't too good on the electronics. Only time I ever wanted to take out the battery...

Edit: And you definitely don't want to use salt...if it gets inside, salt water is deadly for electronics...

If you drop your phone in sea water immediately turn it off. Fully immerse it in a jar of biled cold water and take it to a good service agent. The water will stop the corrosion that would happen if it is left wet.

Even better can be immerse it in methylated spirits as this will displace the moisture and protect it until it can dry out.

Since you turned it back on before it was completely dry, it is probably fried. And as Nikster said, never put anything electronic near salt! A hair dryer and sealing it up with some rice may have saved it.

You can call Apple Care and they will give you the number and address of the closest authorized Apple repair shop. In your case, it's in Phuket Town. I forget exactly where it is. It's called Phuket Alpha. Their number is: 076-215796. They won't repair it on site, I don't think. They will have to send it to Singapore, if it can be repaired... I know it won't be covered by warranty.

The way we tried to dry the Ip2 was a sealed container, a bed of salt , ontop of the bed of salt we put dry rice, then suspended the Ip2 over the rice, sealed the container and left it in the sun for 3 days, It definitely absorbed a lot of water but maybe i was a bit premature in taking it out and plugging it in

.

they both fell into the deep end of our pool which is about 7 feet but for only a couple of seconds.

anyway, i think i'll just have to bin these and buy new

thanks for all the advice.

ps we are on samui

There are Mac service centers in many places, including Rama 3 @ Narathiwas, and Siam Discovery. The iStudio stores offer both warranty and out-of-warranty repairs. Asking iStudio store employees at various locations, they directed me to the iStudio store @ CentralWorld for the quickest turnaround.
