Questions About 1Yr Non-O Visa Extension

Featured Replies

Questions about 1yr non-O visa extension (married to a Thai citizen)

1) we have a marriage certificate that is issued in Costa Rica. How and where can we legalize the document?

2) Financial proof of 400k in Thai bank account: Is it necessary that the money transaction comes from abroad? Any suggestions as to which bank will open an account for a foreigner without work permit? and how long does the account has to exist?

3) What if the house that we are staying is not the house I'm registered in? However, the landlord is my own brother. What document of proof does one need to bring?

Thank you so much!

1. http://costa-rica.visahq.com/embassy/Thailand/

2. Bangkok Bank, K Bank are the most often used. They do not appear to check source as long as is in your name only and the requirement is 2 months in account for application.

3. If you wife is registered as living there that should be all that is required. If not you will still need her registration and you should have a lease or some other paperwork to show where you both live. There does not seem to be any set answer as people will have different paperwork.

Thank you for your reply. However the information about the consulate of Costa Rica that you gave is incorrect. I contacted the ministry of foreign affairs in Thailand and they said there is no Embassy or Consulate of Costa Rica in Thailand. In this case, what can I do to legalize the marriage certificate?

Have you tried calling them? By listing it is an Honorary Consulate which the MFA would not consider a diplomatic mission but they should be able to take care of you or advise who can.

If that is the case then I'm afraid that the marriage certificate will have to be legalized in Costa Rica. You could try another Costa Rica Embassy in the area, such as Singapore, but call or e-mail before making the trip.
