Saw Turtle In Klong/River? Near Lumpini Park

I often jog next to a river or maybe its a klong. This is the center of Bangkok and its a flithy stretch of water what ever it is.

But amazingly I often see the monitor lizrards and this week I saw not one but 2 turtles. Can it really be that Bangkok still provides a home for wild turtles?

My guess is that they are released pets, but I would love to be shown otherwise.

Any one know?

I live in minburi and see then often. Usually walking accross the rd from one rice field to another.

I actually caught one once outside my house but found out they carry disease and live to long so took it back to a safe place to release it.

Minburi is situated in a bangkok surburb so yes i guess they are all over bangkok.

There's quite a few in the pond in Lumpini Park......go feed the fish and the turtles will appear 2 minutes later

I think they are wild. I've seen turtles all over Thailand and anywhere there is water. I've seen them in klongs within the city of Bangkok. Like monitor lizards they seem to adapt to polluted water.

This is a Thai tradition, they buy fish and turtles and release them. My missus released 9 turtles in Lumpini the other week...
