BANGKOK, Oct 18 - Almost 90 per cent of the public said they were confused by the government's announcements from the Flood Relief Operations Command (FROC) on flood situations in Bangkok and its vicinity, according to an opinion poll released today.

Assumption University's ABAC Poll queried 415 persons on Monday and Tuesday Oct 17 and18.

About 86 per cent of respondents said FROC does not provide clear information as to whether their homes would be flooded, while 87 per cent said they did not trust the information provided in the flood relief centre's daily briefing on flood situations, and over half said they were uncertain of police capability to prevent and deal with thieves and crime, according to ABAC Poll director Noppadon Kannika.

Respondents on average gave a score of 3.36 out of 10 for FROC's announcements on flooding situations, but they rated their satisfaction with the government’s warning system even lower at 3.08.

About one-third of those surveyed suggested that the government consider having updated situations provided by local residents, related agencies on site, or evacuation centres, rather than the FROC spokespersons.

According to those respondents, they said they did not receive special services regarding Thai flooding when they dialled the Call Centre No.1111 with Extension No.5 and other numbers. (MCOT online news)

Abac Poll: Flood relief operations center fails to convince people

BANGKOK, 18 October 2011 (NNT) – A recent Abac Poll has shown that the Flood Relief Operations Center (FROC) has failed to convince the public of the current flood situation.

The poll was conducted via telephone interviews right after several live broadcasts of the flood situation during October 17-18.

As much as 86.2 percent of the respondents still have no clear understanding as to whether their areas are flood-prone even after the updates, while 89.2 percent find the updates confusing. About 87 percent don’t trust the information from the FROC.

Most of the respondents or more than 70 percent would rather hear the latest developments from those really working in the affected areas or at evacuation centers than the announcement from the government.

When asked to assess the government performance, the respondents give the FROC only 3.36 points out of 10 for its situation updates and 3.08 points for its warning system. The survey has also found that respondents having sought help through the 1111 ext. 5 hotline do not get better information than that given by the FROC spokespersons.

Assumption University is also planning to carry out a survey on public satisfaction towards the help offered by emergency hotlines, including those set up by the Flood Relief Operations Center.

Opinion Poll Gives Flood Center Failing Mark

According to a recent opinion poll conducted by Assumption University, the Flood Relief Operations Center only scored just under 4 out of 10 points.

The survey respondents said the center's biggest failure was its inability to give clear and easy to understand information.

Director of the ABAC Poll Research Center of Assumption University Noppadol Kannika revealed the results of the center's most recent opinion poll.

The survey was conducted among 415 respondents between October 17 and 18 on the performance of the Flood Relief Operations Center, or FROC.

According to the poll results, 86 percent of the respondents said the FROC has failed to inform them about the areas that were expected to be affected by the floods.

Eighty-nine percent deemed the the flood updates coming out from the center confusing. Eighty-seven percent of the survey respondents simply did not trust the center at all.

The respondents preferred to receive information from those who are actually in the flooded areas rather than from the FROC spokesperson.

As for the overall performance, the FROC only scored 3.36 out of the full score of 10 from the public. Meanwhile, the government’s warning system scored even lower, with 3.08 out of 10.

Based on in-depth interviews, some respondents pointed out that they have not received help after calling various flood hotlines, contrary to the FROC's claim that assistance would be provided once people contacted the hotlines.

This is a sad situation with the govt based FROC where their response team have not given up to date information to the public . Yingluck and her ministers that she has put into positions that have no background in the situation at present and had forewarning at least a month ago of what was about to happen did nothing . The majority of the present govt ministers have been in hiding the thai people have not seen or heard from them .

In the meantime the Prime minister cannot give the right answer or future plans on what to do next but apologize for the huge damage to the industrial site that had been inundated with water and told everyone evacuate and looks like Bangkok is going to be next .

Don't you all understand that the TARGET of this govt is to fail everything and as deep as they could?

When this govt reaches the very deeps of their fails - then ppl would come to the streets again, and cry for a better one (deja vu, yes)...

And then our Mr.T will step in with his "Im The One to save this country - when I was in the position, there was NO such of things!!!" (and there will be no one left to oppose him at that time - as there was noone to oppose him at last elections....)

And people will believe. Yes, of course - do they have any choice (except buying AK47 instead of khao lao, of course)

Don't you all ever think that everything is EXACTY as planned? Dont you all ever play chess and spare a Queen to win the whole battle in just 1-2-3 next steps?

As much as I do not like what the PTP is doing, I am sure they are not planning on things to go this bad.

However, after 6 years living here I can confirm that this is the reason my job here will always be safe and needed by westerners.

Some things here are just not imbedded into their culture other than WEALTH, IMAGE, FACE.

It is their agenda since the very beginning - to bring their Master back. Nothing else is important.

I can't expect any piece of morality from those who is able to step to Govt right from his cell.

Look at these faces once again. Im pretty sure - they came to take care of The Country. I feel safe now by knowing that someone take care of me here in da middle of Pathumthani, mind my difficulties and closely monitor my troubles.

Well this poll just confirms what most of us are posting...that we are not saying the flood is the government's fault, but that their response has been abysmal starting from their lack of response early on to the threat to the blunders made during the past few days.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity...

I can't call these ones just "stupid" - playing the high politic requires at least some kind of self-defence, cheating, mass-controlling and so on, you know what I meant. They are very smart...in some areas of being a polititians.

The stupid (uneducated, frankly speakin) just believed that electional s_hit and voted for them.

And now it is time to gather stones together.

PS: and the idea to bring the Master here - is not their. It is the idea from the Master himself, and he is anything else but not just "stupid". Those above are just a puppets....now having a whole power of this country. I bet the puppeteer enjoys play the strings...

No, they are very dumb, dumb to the point of thinking that they are in some way intelligent.

Being smarter than primitive pond life doesn't make you intelligent, you're still a barnacle.

From the looks of it, I get the impression the PM is taking lessons from George W. in how to handle disasters (remember Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans) rather than from her brother.

I agree with you about Bush and those local and state administrators that failed to serve their constituents. What did they have, about a week's notice to mobize relief efforts? They should have done much much better. Now just imagine if they'd had 2 MONTHS of leadtime and they still didn't provide one bit of relief to the citizenry. Remember this is an event that happens EVERY YEAR to a lesser or greater extent. George Bush comes off looking like Einstein by comparison ( as much as it pains me to say that).
