JimSiam Posted October 18, 2011 Share Posted October 18, 2011 I just went to get a couple of things at Tops, a lot of signs on shelves saying product not available due to floods, same thing at the lotus opposite, the one that surprised me was no bottled water left in packs, only what was in the fridge. Guderian Posted October 20, 2011 Share Posted October 20, 2011 I went shopping in Lotus Thepprasit yesterday and, like the OP said, they were out of bottled water. The space where it used to be is now full of cooking oil, so it doesn't look as if they expect to be replacing it very soon. I can certainly understand that, clean water is a very precious commodity in a flood hit area, so I am sure it will be put to good use. The odd thing was that all the beer had also disappeared. Their delivery web site says no Pepsi available for delivery due to flood. The tentacles of this national disaster reach everywhere! Just wait until the beer supplies start to dwindle. timekeeper Posted October 20, 2011 Share Posted October 20, 2011 i was in sizzler in central today for lunch we were told they had no french fries i joked with the server that they should nip downstairs and get some from Tops i saw them being wheeled in later, so i know the manager there and he was saying that these french fries came from the two branches in Rayong province that had closed due to floods and lack of supplies the manager from Rayong was there too, she looked very despondent its easy to forget simple things like this when you are not on the front line....... The supply chain is severely hit, trucks cant get around but as far as basic essentials are concerned, we shouldn't worry too much in Pattaya... The local Thai markets will always have everything.. It's just the trucks with TESCO, Family Mart and BIG C written on them are having trouble making their delivery rounds because of the centralised nature of their operations.. All four BigC distrubution centres have been closed due to flooding. They are temporarily using other TNT sites and trying to get suppliers to deliver directly to stores. Signs up saying that the distribution centre was disrupted due to flooding, so I think it's more a 7/11 problem than a brewery problem. Hard to imagine Pattaya without beer. True, the warehouses and suppliers for many of our stores/ chain restaurants are unable to restock shelves due to the floods where the warehouses/ suppliers are. The missus just got the last 4 cans of beer on the shelf in Tesco's Sukhumvit tonight. Seems like these Aussie companies can't organise the proverbial then? You would think so but I have previous experience in other countries with very large and profitable supermarket chains and I can tell you that they only think about re-order when the shelves are empty. The Systems used by Big C and Tesco are actually very good, they also both outsource their supply chain to specialists that have vast experience in other countries. For smaller shops its more a matter of cashflow than not knowing about stock control, the only time they have money to buy new stock is when the old stock is sold or by having suppliers on terms. Seems like these Aussie companies can't organise the proverbial then? The Aussies are used to floods, Brisbane 2010/2011 5 meters of water, Floods have been a common thing in Brisbane for Years. At least not in the big bottles. Also could not get french fries and the spicy chicken at Sizzler in Central a couple days ago. Come to think of it I couldn't find big bottles of water in 2 separate 7/11's yesterday. Never occurred to me that all those incidents were related to the flooding until I read this thread.
