Cairo - Libya's deposed leader Moamer Gaddafi was killed Thursday as he attempted to flee his hometown Sirte, the Free Libya TV reported.

Gaddafi’s body was found in the western part of Sirte after a gunbattle, added the television citing a revolutionary fighter loyal to the National Transitional Council. Meanwhile Libyans in many areas of the country took to the streets in jubilation Thursday as reports circulated that the deposed leader Moamer Gaddafi was captured in his hometown Sirte.

Women shouted traditional joy cries in Benghazi, Libya’s second biggest city as men shouted: "God is the Greatest" in jubilation.

Similar scenes were reported from the Libyan capital Tripoli, from which Gaddafi was forced to flee in late August. dpa raf mat Author: Ramadan Al-Fatash

As of 19:-20.hrs (Thailand time) according to R.T. they quoted as yet unconfirmed reports that Gadaffi had died as a results of the wounds received to his legs.

Hilary Clinton a couple of days back stated that she would happily see Gadaffi dead rather than alive. Understandable. Gadaffi was probably privy to many murky secrets from the U.S and a large number of European countries with whom he suddenly became bosom buddies with a few years back.

Bet Tony Bliairs ring piece isn't so tight now. Dead men tell no tales do they?

Personally I don't mourn Gadaffi's death but indeed it was very convenient was it not?

Good.

Free Housing, water, electricity, 50.000$ when you get married to buy a house, free medical care, free study (should you wish to); all paid by the bad dictator. Wait for the traditional joy cries when the NATO/french thieves of oil and water try to topple this heritage.

He shouldnt have done it without the IMF/Worldbank, independant.

And then a real currency backed by Gold, not promises, oh no no.

RIP

Complete <deleted> I'm afraid. Why don't you look up some stats before you blather about the wonderful psycho.

He did better than Saddham. He would have ended up in prison until he was executed.

Agreed Saddam was pathetic. Whilst his sons died in fire fights Saddam hid in a hole and died in shame.

How old was he, 67?, do you really expect someone that age to die fighting?

Live blog: Libya's National Transitional Council says Gadhafi dead

111020123201-libya-celebrate-story-top.jpg

Libyans are celebrating in Tripoli as reports spread that Moammer Gadhafi is dead.

There are reports that deposed Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi has been either captured or killed.

[update 8:56 a.m. ET] Mahmoud Shamman, Libya's Information Minister tells CNN that a press conference will be happening soon about the alleged death of Gadhafi. Shamman said Gadhafi is dead. CNN's Dan Rivers spoke to him in Tripoli where crowds are cheering, shooting guns in a celebratory way and honking their horns.

CNN's Ben Wedeman, who covers the region and has covered Libya extensively, said that much caution should be used with these reports because false information has come out previously. It is being reported that Gadhafi was found in a storm drain. "It's a bit of surprise because we knew that he had escaped from Tripoli" with a lot of cash and weapons, Wedeman said. It would seem odd that Gadhafi would end up in a manhole-type of area, Wedeman said live on CNN.

Similar situation to Bin Laden but not buried at sea.

If there's any games being played, it's far more likely he posed for a photo and then disappeared to a private island with a container of gold bricks and Russian vodka.

Stats from "The Sun"? Or where do you inform yourself? Have you met this "Psycho"? So how do you know?

Dont believe everything they print or what you read here!

Don't take my word for it. Google it and take your pick. Compare a few different credible sources. Observe the trends and draw your own conclusions. If you find that he was a nice guy and deserves to be defended, then you have a case.
