Best not to know.....

I made me curious and I had a look in my dictionnary.

To save others the trouble of doing the same this is what I found:

To walk with large noticeable movements, especially to attract attention

or show that you are angry:

"Right, don't expect any help of me in future!" he said and flounced out of the room.

The explanation in the dictionnary doesn't mention anything about entering the room

again, which is what 'flouncers' usually do in forums as we notice once in a while :whistling:

Once I mentioned in a posting an experience I had when I was assistent of a film crew

filming in public space. It happened almost at every shoot as far as I remember.

A guy would show up in front of the camera shouting that he didn't want to be filmed

and certainly not without being asked for permission.

The argument that nobody was filming him and that he even had crossed the street to

come within reach of the camera fell on deaf ears: 'He and only he decided where he

would walk and stand and it was his right to be here and we should stop filming

immediatly'.

The person seemed not to be aware of his rather strange and deviant behaviour.

He showed all the symptoms of an extremely angry person.

We considered it as a desperate cry for attention and if my English would have had

the level it reached today I might have called him a 'flouncer'.

At that time we called this kind of people simply 'idiots looking for attention' and

we guessed that the behaviour was based on a kind of inner sadness possibly caused by

lack of attention during early childhood :o

Flouncing ... not directly a word one uses everyday.

Have a nice weekend!
