Change Ed-Visa To Retirement-Visa

Featured Replies

I am staying here in Pattaya on a ED-Visa for 1 year. Next year, I will turn 50 years and then plan to apply for the retirement-Visa. I red a story about someone who applied in Bangkok in 2008 and could not get that change from ED to retirement. I will meet all the necessary aspects (age 50, 800'000 Baht with Kasikornbank, Bank Certification).

Can I go to Pattaya Immigration after my birthday an apply for the retirement-visa? Do I get the visa the same day?

thanks for any help

You wouldn't be getting a visa, you would be extending your permission to stay based on retirement. If they can't or won't do the conversion because of your visa status, just go to a neighboring country and apply for a single entry Non-Immigrant "O" Visa, then apply for the retirement extension with about 30 days remaining on your permission to stay.

Believe Pattaya is the exception and you must return next day to obtain the extension stamp.

I just changed from ED to Retirement in Pattaya 2 weeks ago, Took just 20 minutes with the correct paperwork, 10 am in the morning,Picked up passport with extension in at 2pm.The immigration staff were very pleasant and competent.

Thanks, good to know. So I will also try.

hello,

when you mention "the correct paperwork", what exactly does this include?

I assume the usual application form, photos, financial requirement, but I have also read about a medial check and a "you're not a criminal" letter.

I will be soon changing from ED to retirement, and want to ensure I do not have to leave the country and that I can do this at the Chonburi Immigration office in Pattaya. The Internet is FULL of conflicting info on this...

thanks!
