Applicant For Ed Visa Cannot Have Dependent With Them

Featured Replies

We have been advised by local Immigration that an applicant for a ED Visa (language school) may no longer also apply for a dependent to accompany them (our case is a US lady who wishes to bring her 8 year old daughter with her).

Has anyone heard this from other reliable sources?

This was posted on here by the applicant and she was told the facts, no she cannot have a dependent on her ED Visa

This must be a recent rule. Over a number of years, we have seen Dependent / Ed Visa issued at various consulates. Not only for a child but also for a spouse(but only for 1 dependent).

If the child was at school then a dependant visa could be issued to the Mother, but not the other way around.

A dependent extension of stay can be issued for child per section 2.11 but this is not designed for language school 3 month extension of stay type study but for full time university type study. Do not believe that has changed.
