My type o visa has just expired, I just did a visa run and got automatic 3 months extension which is due to expire in January. My question is what are my best options for renewing my visa without settling for a 15 days visas when I am planning to stay for another 6-12 months. I am currently based in Ranong, I hear there is a double entry visa that will give me 6 months, how would I go about this?

That means no valid reason for O visa issue or extension? A two entry tourist visa is likely the best alternative available in area and that could cover almost six months stay if each entry extended. Consulates in Laos should issue but in other locations it may not be available.

The double entry tourist visa is 60 days per entry, each entry extendable by 30 days at immigration, therefore you have 60 + 30 x 2 = 6 months.
