Proposal For 200Km Floodway: Thailand

If I resided alongside a river delta, and someone came along and asked if they should build a town on its mud flats, I would say 'no.'

Granted, Bangkok is already built, but the geology remains the same - except that measurements show the mud flats are subsiding at between 2 to 10 cm per year, and sea levels are rising by several mm's per year.

a city like Dacca has no realistic option for relocating, because nearly all of Bangladesh is flood prone (except an eastern strip of hill tribe region bordering Burma). Thailand however, has options. If Thai pu yai myopically stick with the 'Bangkok must be saved regardless of cost' attitude, then things will get increasingly dire, year by year.
