Govt to pay bigger compensations for flood victims

The government is going to extend bigger financial help to flood victims.

Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit Tuesday revealed that the compensation amount would be Bt30,000 per house destroyed in flooding.

For a partially-damaged house, its owning family will be able to claim Bt10,000 compensation. For a flooded house that sustains substantial damage, its owning family will be able to get Bt20,000 compensation.

"But as the first step, the owner of each flooded house will get Bt5,000," Yongyut said.

He was speaking after he emerged from a meeting with Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra.

RT@terryfrd: Today Dr Seree & Darin toured Pathum Thani, a province 100% flooded. Levels have receded 70cm in some places, but hard to notice difference

RT@terryfrd: The two went to amphur Sam Kok at the northern edge of province where you can see northern water flow it. That's why PT not drying out

RT@terryfrd: The flow from the north is also bad news for Nonthaburi because that's where much of it goes.

RT@terryfrd: This afternoon, Dr Seree was at Govt House for 1st meeting (chaired by PM) of new water commission. Optimistic good things will come of it.
