Thai Citizens Moving To Thailand

Featured Replies

I have some friends whose son - born in Thailand and married to a girl born in Thailand - and wants to move to Thailand to start a business. He wants to know if he ships their household goods are they going to

be subject to import duties and/or VAT. I came in on a retirement visa and got nailed with both - but I thought I read somewhere that Thais can bring their possessions in for free - but don't want to

give him false info. He has lived in the US for about 25 years but did come to Thailand about 5 years ago to help set up an American Electronics company - but I guess now he wants to start his own company. Thanks

A returing Thai national, who has lived for more than 1 year abroad can bring in his second hand household items (older than 6 months) for free in a reasonable amount. (1 TV is OK, 10 TV's not).

Look for more information here: http://www.customs.go.th/wps/wcm/connect/custen/individuals/importing+used+or+secondhand+household+effects/importingusedsecondhandhouseholdeffects

Returning Thai can being back normal second hand goods in personal use quantities duty free after being outside country one year. Below is the customs website:

He and wife are returning on Thai passports? That will be important for work and stay.
