Where To Get Seed To Grow Brown Rice?

Featured Replies

Hey all you rice farmers out there! Has anyone ever grown or heard of anyone growing brown rice? Mind you, I'm a falang and we aren't allowed to be farmers - it's really my inlaws who do the farming. I just watch ( I wish).

We grew some black (purple?) rice a couple of years ago and that was good. We tried to plant some this year and it didn't germinate. I guess the seed can't be older than one year. Next growing season we hope to grow both black rice and brown rice if we can get seed.

Thanks in advance,

Bryan

My wife bought our rice seed from a gov't office near us. She says that they had seed for brown rice but we didn't grow any. The office we went to is called "Sahtahnee Totlong Khou" which means something like 'rice research office'. They have offices in these cities:

Khon Kaen (043) 241-740, Sakhon Nakhon (042) 711-471, Undon Thani (042) 247-485, Nakhon Ratchasema (044) 471-583, Chumpae (043) 311-155, Ubon Ratchathani (045) 344-103-4, Surin (044) 528-255, and Nong Khai (042) 420-346.

Most of these numbers are listed as both phone numbers and fax numbers so I don't know how that works. Good luck.

That's the kind of info I'm looking for! Thanks a lot. We'll try it. Mybe they will have some other interesting varieties too.
