Thae Pae Gate New Year Celebrations

Recommended Posts

I've just been talking to a BKK policewoman who has been drafted here ( along with many others ) to go undercover at the Thae Pae Gate celebrations. She advised me not to go down as they are here to snatch any rowdies or drunkards and hand them over to the CM uniforms. Apparently ( and rightly so ) the authorities are determined it doesn't end up a shambles as many of the Full Moon parties can be. So If your going, keep a low profile.

ps I don't know if this type of policing is standard at the New Year party howver it would be wrong of me to be told this and not pass it on to fellow TV members.

She advised you not to go.

Are you a trouble maker.

I notice she said nothing about nabbing the people who are just enjoying the show.

Nope, I'm not a trouble maker, maybe she knows that someone is going to have to pay the expenses for all these extra police that have been drafted in and who's the best source of tea money?

No, she advised him not to go down.wink.png

Have a great time at Thapae Gate OP.......it should be fun.

Thanks very much, I love Thae Pae Gate at New Year, it's superb and it seems to be getting better.

I appreciate the implication of random tea money extraction from Farangs on NYE. Precious. wink.png

huh.png I thought the Bangkok Flying Squad were here to arrest rowdy Thai's.

re .. any rowdies or drunkards

hopefully none will even bother to go there because there certainly was a lot of police

patrolling the crowd last night looking for troublemakers or ? and there are plenty of signs

in thai and english saying alcahol is not allowed there.

so anyone taking it with them could possibly be lifted just for having it : (

I've seen the massive signs saying no alcohol, and I'm only forwarding information given to me direct from a BKK police officer. I'll keep it to myself next time biggrin.png

Just got back; massive party. Still going strong at Zoe in Yellow too. Thapae was too jam packed to even regulate anything, but plenty people were drinking along he moat on the roads leading up to Thapae Gate.

Saw some iffy driving on the way back, but as usual no police checks on roads going out of town. It almost seems intentional that they don't want to catch people. I didn't even bother taking evasive action to avoid checkpoints.

Didn't see a single check point on the way back. Police were not hassling anyone.

I must say it was an excellent atmosphere, my only minor compaint is that the stage show should have went on a little bit longer. The BKK Police officer I was talking to is still on shift so I'll ask her in the morning as to the amount of, ( if any ) arrests.

I bet she's sleeping it off.....after doing such a long shift.

One wonders what's the next event the Bangkok SAS will converge on Chiang Mai for?

.. thai pae was an absolute cluster frack... one one side there was only ONE 3 ft. wide opening next to the TV van to enter and exit the square... i tried not to imagine anything happening to start a panic in the crowd.

Almost as predictable as Christmas: about two weeks before Songkran they'll be back for a "cleanup" and "clampdown" on anything vaguely disreputable or fun. AKA collecting for the BIB holiday fund rolleyes.gif .

In complete agreement with you there.... I'm surprised that nobody finished up in the moat...

Do you have to drink alcohol to have fun? Just wondering.

Your not far wrong there, I noticed security guards sitting out on the street where the ladyboys normally congregate so it was a poor high season for them laugh.pngI've just woken up so I'll drag myself downstairs and get a crime report from my BKK undercover police lady.

By the way, the concept of being undercover is so that people don't know your there. passifier.gif
