PM Yingluck: Govt Will Continue Economic Stimulus Policies

BANGKOK, 1 January 2012 - The Thai prime minister has pledged to keep up with promises on more economic stimulus policies after the country's worst flood crisis in decades is over.

During her weekly national TV show, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has assured Thailand that her Pheu Thai-led government intends to continue implementing all policies stated in the election campaign, including the 1st-car and the 1st-home policies, which had been started before the flood crisis hit the country a few months ago.

PM Yingluck said that some of the promised policies that will be executed soon are the rice pledging program and the THB15,000 minimum salary policy.

However, the Thai Premier has conceded that the implementation of the THB300 minimum wage policy is to be delayed until April 1, 2012 at the soonest, as the issue still needs more discussions and consent from related parties.

The prime minister added that other polices the government consider long-term ones and need to be resumed as soon as possible are the debt moratorium and the SML loan program for various grassroot communities across the nation.

Whats to discus they promised it they have the votes to pass it. They made a promise with out consent from the related parties. Not exactly what you would call honest even by Thai standards.

All that aside how long will it take Thailand to dig out from under the massive debts the current government is going to incur.

Not being a banker I was wondering if all this money shortage will make my Canadian money worth more Baht's.

If the government palm off the FIDF debt (that was supposedly paid off during Thaksin's government) to the BOT there will certainly be a devaluation of the baht.

Phew, was worried for a sec the rich wouldn't get their tax breaks on their 5 million baht homes and cars for their children. The corporate tax to be reduced as well I'm sure. Good to know trickle down economics moves forward

AFAIR the money to be paid back was the IMF loan plus interest only.

The FIDF debt was the remainder of the non-performing loans and outstanding bankruptcy from banks and finance houses.

Keep spending, the dollar will be back to 40 baht, keep rolling those dice and hoping for the best. Soon we will be calling Thailand Greece for short
