Not sure where to start this but the last time I was in the LOS, I was in a bar on Soi Cowboy talking with a few folks about some of the funny sports that are now televised. The conversation swung around to poker and I mentioned that I played semi-professionally and that my entire trip was being paid for off of gambling winnings. Not only did that get me an little extra attention from the folks thinking gambling money spends a lot easier than earned money but one of the waitresses told me about her love of poker. Unfortunately she had lost over a month's wages in one evening and had given it up. She offered to get me into a game she knows about if I had an interest. I thought about it long and hard but in the end I figured either the game would be fixed or if I won I wouldn't be leaving with all my money, so I declined the offer.

Anyway, that's a long lead-in to the question: Are there any semi-safe games going on in Bangkok (yes, I know gambling is illegal in Thailand)? Any farangs regulars there?

I ask only out of curiosity and I think it would make an interesting post on my poker weblog.

Also, how about online players? I can think of at least a few tricks to SSH tunnel past the government blocks. Anybody making a living off online poker and living in the LOS?

I mean, a decent poker player can make 2 big bets an hour (or more) in a small stakes game. Even playing a $2/$4 limit hold 'em game would yield about $1300 a month playing 40 hours a week. Playing $3/$6 or $5/$10, which are still relatively small stakes in the poker world, would produce $1900 - $3200 a month. While those amounts might not keep one in the lap of luxary in the US or Europe, surely one could get by on that in Thailand :o

Again my question comes from the fact that I hear about folks bolting for Costa Rica, Aruba, and all sorts of places to go play poker online for a living in a country where the cost of living is relatively low. Thailand seems to be a natural match for that and with the limited employment opportunities for farangs, it seems like it would be a perfect match.

Not a good idea to be looking for games in LOS. Some Thai people become paranoid just at the sight of playing cards. I think they take it very seriously. Online could be another matter but I am not sure. I place my sports wagers on the internet all the time when I am in LOS. Never had a problem.

Why is a Colonel in the Bangkok Police posting under the name digibum? :o

Ok, if you're not comfortable talking about your gaming experiences in the LOS, let's say you have a friend, or maybe you heard about a guy . . . obviously not you, who played . . . :D

or PM me and I'll send my email and you can check out my poker blog and you'll certainly have no doubt that I don't work for the Bangkok police :D I'm just really interested to hear any stories from local games or folks who are making a living playing.
