January 6, 201214 yr Some time ago, after an accident where a speedboat hit a swimmer, there were some discussions here over buoy lines at Kata Beach. There always used to be one at the Northern end of the beach, marking the reef there, where lots of divers and snorkelers are active. Unfortunately this line has disappeared, probably during the strong winds of 26 December. I checked with the Rescue Center at that side of the beach, and was told they don't have money to replace it. This means that at the moment boat traffic including jet ski's is going over the reef, which is not good for the reef, but even worse, potentially very dangerous for divers and snorkelers. Especially the latter are often hardly visible. This is IMO an accident waiting to happen.
