I will be heading home for about a month in March. I live in Hua Hin, I have a business here. I have currently lived in Thailand for 2 years. I do not plan on returning to the US for a permanent stay. My girlfriend works in the Thai Army. She has held her job for about 2-3 years. She has some time off and would be able to go with me for about 2 weeks of the one month I have planned to visit. However I know the US is not really open to letting girlfriends visit for fear of marriage and letting her stay and become a burden etc. My question is should I just be honest, show them proof of business, how I have lived here, a letter from a school where I work, a letter from my accountants showing that I have been paying taxes here for a year, as well as the same letter for my girlfriend from her boss ( a general in the army) stating that she has a two week vacation and is expected back. OR should I do what I have read in many other situations, and since my girlfriend is financially independent through her own family have her apply by herself and give her a valid itinerary of where she will be going and such and just "forget" to mention that she is visiting with her boyfriend?

any advice?

thanks

Perhaps not the best advice, but I'd go with including your bona fides as looks like you have good ties to Thailand and will be returning here after your visit. Thus, it would/should look to the interviewing ConOff that your girlfriend will also return to Thailand after her visit with you. You'd be tied together, so to speak, for the trip.

She'd be coming back to Thailand on her own? Right?

To add to your paperwork, assume you have a work permit.

FYI, my now wife got her first three U.S. visas while still a GF. That status does not preclude issuance of a visa. But, the ConOff's decision really was based on my status here on a "retirement" extension.

In 2009 my GF applied for a visa to go back to the US with me. I am an international school teacher (55) and she has a job, no assets (32). She brought the letter from her employer, but they really wanted to see my original work permit and passport, which she had to return with. It said right on her visa that she would be accompanied by me. This year she applied again and was given a ten year. It was all pretty pain free!

Apply for a tourist visa. Have your GF show the counselor a copy of your work information, and a copy of your passport with current visa. She should also have any of her work information handy. A note from a General can’t hurt.

It can be done. Tell the counselor everything. BE HONEST.

My GF got a 10 year visa last October; we leave for Maui in 6 days.biggrin.png

You need to move fast on this, it can take a few months to get an interview date.

Good luck,
