You will not get a new non-B visa in Burma.

If you are talking about getting another 90 day permission of stay on a multiple non-B, Mae Sai is the option for you from CM.

Several visa run companies go from CM to Mae Sai on daily bases.

For getting a Non-B you must go Laos, Cambodia or Malaysia and have a work permit or a WP3 ( declaration that your work permit will be approved when you have a a single entry non-B )

As for last May, Savannakhet in Laos, has very easy going staff and the consulate not crowded at all... I was the only applicant !

your visit was 8 mths ago. It's not the same now.

The OP might wanna look at Vientiene , it would be fairly close also.

you maybe able to get a visa on arival for burma at mai sai crossing, i asked there and they said can stamp you with a 12 day pass instead of the usual 1 day but they wanted to know where i was staying etc so maybe there's travel limitations - only 500 baht to enter.

as you probably remember laos costs 35$ to enter and from chiang mai you can fly to udon thani or take a long bus trip .

or you could head north of chiang mai and enter laos in the far north and head down following the river to vientiane if you wanted an experience.

or there's reasonibly priced flights to KL.

all quite easy from chiang mai.
