How To Make A Perfect Ear Canal Plug

Featured Replies

I bought an MP3 player, which I could use for swimming. However try as I may, I've tried so many solutions, I just cannot manage to keep the water out of my ears. As a last resort I'm thinking about making some kind of Silicon plug which matches my Ear canal perfectly. Does anybody know how to do this?

Speedo used to sell a mouldable silicon putty for keeping water out of the ears.

I found that it didn't work well for me and kept falling out. I haven't seen it around for about 5 years.

Now I use Zoggs and Speedo silicon rubber ear plugs that have enough "stiffness" to stay put and work well.for me

Speedo ear plugs are available in most large Thai Departmental store swimming gear depts and Sports stores.

If you find a silicon (or other) plug that fits your ear perfectly, how do you use the ear bud from your MP3 player? I'm having a hard time picturing this.

When I worked in a reservations call center back in the 1980's and wore a Plantronics headset, an audiologist friend made me a plastic (silicon?) plug, but inserted a small tube before it dried. Once the mold was dry, he removed his small tube and inserted the plastic tube from my head set and voila, I had a customized ear piece that blocked external noise. That worked with a non-electronic audio tube, but would it work with an electronic MP3 player headset?

Well, thats the next issue. Would take off the exisiting mini head sets which are water proof, and inbred them in the silicone. Will try to figure out something

I watched a movie where an audiologist makes custom earphones from your ears. He put some sort of silicon mold for an impressions in the ear and made out of it a perfect fit earphone. You wont hear outside noise, it is water proof and it will not fall out.

But I don't know if they do this service in Bangkok.

Thanks..... Not sure where so access such in ear kits in BKK. Bought some H2O headsets in US on a recent trip, seem to have solved the solution. Will try them with the "comfort" ear plugs to see if better.

Cheers
