I'm looking to come back to Thailand to live in a few months.

My Partner is a duel Aus/Thai citizen. While we have been meaning to actually get married for some 20 years I never quite got around to it. (long story).

As I'm not quite old enough for a retirement visa I will need to get the marriage one.

What will be the difference in process if I get married here in Oz rather than in Thailand?

Is one option materially different, better, worse than the other or is there no difference?

thanks.

Upon coming here after a marriage in Aus, you will need to get the Marriage Certificate translated, then go to the MFA at Chaengwattana, Bangkok, to be certified then you will need to go the Amphur to get it entered into their registry.

If you get married here, you will need an affirmation to marry from your embassy, this will need to be translated into Thai, then go to MFA at Chaengwattana to get it certified, then you can marry in an Amphur.

Main sticking point for the Thai based marriage might be the Tambien Baan for your wife, where is she registered and does she still have a Thai ID card as these will need to be produced at the Amphur.

Others here might tell you more detailed info.

As extension of stay will require local paperwork each year there would be an extra step to record the Oz paperwork here - but to get married here there is an extra step to get a latter from your Embassy. Not sure what you would need in Oz but seems about the same on that score. Suspect mutual divorce may be easier here as can do in a few minutes but that does not seem an issue. Do not know other law issues.

They will also have to be produced for extensions of stay so must be attended too.

She has her Thai ID and PPort and is registered in her familys' house. Got all that sorted some months ago.

If that is the case, then okay.

Do you have family in Aus, I ask this as it is nice for a Thai woman to be married in her hometown, also lets the parents show off the new husband, you can do the official in Aus and the family one in Thailand, best of both worlds, but the wedding registered in Aus.

She has family on both sides, but has been here since she was a child so is not concerned about the traditional bits thankfully...and the family has long since recognised that for all my wonderful attrubutes (many and varied smile.png ) I don't do temples, ceremonies and the like.
