Medical Certificate For New Wp

Featured Replies

Two questions.

My employer (a university) has asked me to provide a medical certificate for my first WP application. The form they have given me includes a request for a HIV and Hep B test. I have had a WP with another employer (about 2 years ago) and I don't recall having a blood test. Is this a new requirement?

Also, can anyone recommend somewhere I can get this done cheaply in Bangkok as I have to pay for it myself. Thanks.

I believe the requirement in itself is not new but there has been a memorandum sent to I believe all labor departments that the blood tests are now required. Started hearing of it on Thaivisa about 6+ months ago I believe. Getting work permits for many years and when I renewed in Chiang Mai in October it was required where previously just the 'you're breathing, OK' tests was fine.

//edit - this wp was for a university also

//edit 2 - the HIV & Hep B was not part of the requirements for the blood tests and is spelled out at the labor department. Syphilis is as was elephantitis.

Believe these are the specifics of the medical requirements as from handouts from labor:

"Applicant must present Medical certificate showing that the applicant is not insane or mentally sick, suffer from Leprosy, Tuberculosis, Drug Addiction, Alcoholism, Elephantitus and Tertiary Syphilis (issued within the last six months)."

Nothing about HIV & Hep B.

Thanks. I don't want to pay for tests that are not required.

Thanks. I don't want to pay for tests that are not required.

I was able to have it done in Chiang Mai for 200 baht at a major private hospital so should be easy enough in Bangkok also. Just need to wait for someone with experience there to come on.

Believe the only recent change is the current requirement for syphilis blood test. The others should just be visual exam. Not sure how much the blood test costs but prior price was only about 200 baht at most clinics from reports.

Thanks. That's helpful.
