Hi,

Wife and I are in process of trying for 12 month Visa ( Retirement).

I missed out on the very neat method :-

Step 1. 30 day Tourist Waiver - 90 Non Immi O

Step 2. 90 Non Immi O - 12 Month Non Immi O.

I had thought the 800k in Thai Bank was needed at Step 2 - not at Step 1.

Now too late for the Step 1 action.

So it seems either leave Thailand and fly back in when 800k definitely in Bank or trek from Chiang Mai to Vientiane.

Have no wish for another faux pas - so have been checking ref Vientiane - vis a vis Documents required and what is available.

Can anyone help please with the following.

1. Do I have to have proof of Bank funds anywhere - must they be in Thailand?

2. If in Bank funds - must be double for both?

3. Do Vientiane offer a Non O?

4. If so what manner of Non O do I need ( 90 days ) for Step 2 above?

5. Is the 90 day a double or multi entry?

6. Any idea how much the Visa will cost - want to be sure I take sufficient funds.

They will issue a Single Entry Non Imm O Visa. 2,000 baht.

Apply for the 12 month extension at immigration in Thailand.

You can easily get more 15 day visa exempt entries at border so unless getting the funds into account is a long process you could do the conversion. The money does not have to be in account two months for that step (only for the actual extension of stay).

Tee easiest way to do this is to go to a agency that specializes in this. I use Star Visa but there are others. They have an agent in Vientiane who can take care of you there. They will also organize all your paperwork. The charge to me was 700 baht.
