Rimmer Posted January 19, 2012 Share Posted January 19, 2012 5 year old traps hand in cheese grinder at Central Pattaya Restaurant PATTAYA: -- A 5 year old boy was rushed to Hospital on Wednesday evening after he placed his hand in a Cheese Grinder at a Scandinavian Restaurant. The boy aged 5 and nephew of the restaurant owner, was taken to the Pattaya Memorial Hospital with part of the Cheese Grinder so medical staff could remove his hand from the machine in a controlled manner. Khun Bootpar aged 45, the owner of the Globetrotter Restaurant and Hotel in Soi 7 off Pattaya Beach Road, explained that her nephew was inside the kitchen and out of curiosity, approached the machine and in a split second placed his hand inside. It's called a guard and any business responsible for letting this happen would be prosecuted. Now what do you think will happen here in Thailand? Accidents happen in EVERY country, having said that though, a child that age should have never been in a dangerous area like a kitchen let alone a commercial one they just aren't built for children.. In spite of the fact that a child that age shouldn't have been in there in the first place, the "guard" was there in the form of the adults present unfortunately they weren't paying enough attention obviously.. A lady in my town lost her arm to mincer in a butchers shop. A 16 year old boy nearly lost his hand to a mincer if it was not for his quick reactions to turn off the machine… Both events occurred within 10 kms of each other in the UK… Incidents such as these while easily preventable occur anywhere and any comment to the contrary is simply unnecessarily negative to Thailand. The issue here is an unsupervised 5 year old, who could run out into the road, electrocute themselves, trap their fingers in a cupboard, pour hot coffee over themselves etc… More often than not the only difference between news such as this and nothing happening is simply luck. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

But what happened to the business in which this happened? The chances are they were prosecuted. You are talking rubbish, a meat grinder can have a guard and do in civilised countries To quote you "your talking rubbish", they have guards for ADULTS to prevent injuries when they use the equipment to protect them from themselves not intended to protect children from harm in a place they shouldn't be in unsupervised in the first place.. Here's a source for your edification seems that even in Britain they have a ton of preventable accidents and the home kitchen is top of the list for those let alone a commercial kitchen, they are dangerous places for anyone let alone an improperly supervised 5 year old..
