Thai iced tea landed number 27 among world's most popular drinks

BANGKOK, 23 January 2012 (NNT) – Thai iced tea has made it into the world’s 50 most delicious drinks list compiled by CNNGo.

CNNGo, a popular website which provides guides to lifestyle, shopping, restaurants and travel, has given Thai iced tea the 27th place on its list of the world’s 50 most delicious drinks.

The website explained that the sweet and delicious taste of the popular Thai drink comes from the combination of strong-brewed black tea and condensed milk. It claimed that the reputation of the Thai iced tea has led Vietnamese and Chinese restaurants to use Thailand’s recipe in their brew.

The top ten drinks on the list include water, Coca Cola, coffee, beer, tea, Malaysia’ air mata kucing, orange juice, red wine, gin and tonic, and hot chocolate with marshmallows.

Cnngo would give anything a rating of 27 if it meant they got to try it. Hardly a ringing endorsement. Lol

This, after a thorough survey of perhaps 200 people.

Worldwide....

Sang Som didn't make the list!?

Have to admit, Thai tea tastes great!

Give me Teh Tarik any day !

Hate the stuff.. I would rather drink my own pee!

Thailand, the world's hub for the 27th most favorite beverage. (As voted by 37 teenage girls)

I'm shocked that Chang Beer wasn't among the top 5. shock1.gif

Took me 10 years of living in Thailand before someone could finally tell me the name of the tea they brew for Thai Iced Tea (chaa dahm = black tea, even if it looks orangish to me.) I always liked it, but the Thai's put waaaay too much sugar in it. I make it at home now, and LOVE it -- I just use a small amount of sweetener.

If I were bored in the grocery store, I could always entertain myself by asking for the tea. I would point to the jars of pre-mixed Thai Iced Tea powder, and say I want that tea without the milk and sugar. I would be offered anything from Japanese green tea to instant coffee (!) to chamomile tea, and more. Even asking for "chaa dahm" can produce amusing results.
