Wifes Name Changed From Birth Certificate After Divorce

Featured Replies

Can anyone help me. My son is married to a Thai lady named Muninta, she was previously married to a Thai man but they got divorced long before she met my son. We are trying to get her a UK settlement visa and, so far, she has passed her english test and got her tb certificate. She has got most of her papers translated so that we can begin putting together her documentation for the application and we have a problem we need help with.

After her divorce, she took back her fathers surname but also changed her first name from Bua-ngoen to Muninta.

Now she has a birth certificate and divorce certificate with Bua-ngoen as her first name, but her identity card, passport, marriage certificate, english test and tb certificate all have her first name showing as Muninta.

Muninta says she has papers showing her change of name and we propose to get this translated into English to put in the application pack with her other documents.

Has anyone got any experience of this situation who can give us advice as we are unsure where we need to put this information in the application.

Do we need to highlight somewhere in the application that her name has been changed or will they pick this up themselves. We don't want to be told her application is rejected because we put the information in the wrong place.

Thanks Ann

Th application form actually asks if the applicant has ever used any other name. Apart from that, just explain everything in a covering letter, giving details and dates of the name changes. As long as the documentation covers the stated facts, then no problem. By the way, name changing is very common in Thailand, and the visa officers are aware of it.
